Submitted on 5/18/2019 Review title of jacovnyFun, with disappointment. As some have noted, there were several versions of this game, each with minor differences which may be major to some. For example, the ability to throw a pass the entire length of the field, to great comic effect, was removed in later versions, and is not present here. But some fun features from those later versions are missing as well, such as the ability to create and trade players (rather essential for attempting to approximate modern rosters, for those so inclined). What we end up with is a mash-up of versions that is still fun, but may leave many a little - or a lot - disappointed.
I'll still take it over Madden any day. Submitted on 1/18/2020 Review title of jimdandy49Bo knows TecmoTecmo was the one that started it all. Too bad EA Sports bought themselves a monopoly on pro football games with their exclusive license bull$#!+ and killed competition from 2K and others. This game would be totally awesome if it still had that license, but you can customize it if you have time. FYI, this plays more like the later edition of Tecmo Super Bowl that came out for Sega Genesis. They probably cant even use that name nowadays, to avoid a lawsuit.
For a more genuine Tecmo experience, I prefer to use the Nestopia NES emulator and play the original on my PC. They also have updated versions of the old school game with current teams/schedules/rosters available for free online.
I was hoping they would let us edit everything.so worth the $10?Well I probably put in 10 hours of gameplay between yesterday and today so thats 1 dollar per hour. Game is alot of fun but lacking in some fields. I think my playtime will decrease by the weekend but with the Cag league that should be another 10-20 hours of gameplay for the next 2 months or so. 30 hours of FUN gameplay for 10 bucks? Must buy.And when I say lacking in some fields, I mean stat tracking, edit uniform colors, online leagues and franchises. I am probably going to get this, but haven't had a chance to try the demo. I will tonight and will buy it if I like it.
Anyway, I'm just putting the word out that I will be interested in playing in the CAG league if I end up buying the game. I don't care what team. One of whatever is left!Game is a lot of fun.
Raiders are still available and they have Tim Brown as an impact WR. League sign up is going to end on Saturday morning so I can work out the 16 game schedule for each team and have it ready by Sunday. Were you using a keyboard and the gamefaqs link? That link has the depth chart perfect compared to that in the game.My keyboard wasn't working but I was able to use my chatpad pretty effectively.
The reason it seemed to take longer was the need to push 'A' between everything. And every time a name is longer than 13 characters they need to prompt you again. After a couple of edits I think they should assume you know the drill.Do you think there will be an opportunity to get a save game file with the roster edits on it? Should we even be wasting our time? Who is here is complaining about gameplay? I just stated that I hope the 'sequel' if there is one has some more bells and whistles in terms of modes.
I would spend 1600 points for franchise, online franchise/season etcNo, I wasn't singling you out. I was just surprised at the expectations people had for this game.
And I feel like there's a stark contrast between people who grew up on it and would have been happy with a straight port even without online play.strictly for nostalgic reasons. And then the people who are viewing this as just another football game who wish it did X, or had more Y, or whatever. If they just added in a bunch of things that never were in the original game, at some point it stops being 'Tecmo Super Bowl' and just becomes a brand new game. I guess there are some people who wanted that, but I don't really get it. With Madden, NCAA, Blitz, All-Pro Football, Doug Williams BCFX, and the new Backbreaker game.do we really need another random modern football game? I just feel like there's a huge market for exactly what this game is. It doesn't need to be anything more than that.
And honestly, my post was satire more than anything (and a bit of an inside joke with Pure Apathy). And honestly, my post was satire more than anything (and a bit of an inside joke with Pure Apathy).Bingo! I don't buy football games, watch football games, or follow any teams, but I bought this day one on the fact that it was a game that my group of friends played together back in the day. It's simple and I don't have to have any training as a football coach to play.
It's good as is in my book. No, I wasn't singling you out. I was just surprised at the expectations people had for this game. They do not have to really work/spend money on graphics, sound, music, play by play.
They do not have to spend money on getting the NFL License and NFLPA. A $20 buck price point with color editor, player editor, more stats, franchise and league play could be a pretty big rival for those who are sick of Madden. If this game is successful where do they go from here for a sequel? Because it could be profitable if they offer modern features with old school gameplay.

I think trying to compete with Madden would be a huge mistake. I don't think this game was really released to entice new customers. They already said they didn't want to allow people to edit player ratings because it would be exploited to all hell (and it would be).More stats.it has what the original game has.
This shouldn't be a complaint for anybody familiar with the original game. If you bought this on a blind buy, that's your own fault.
Franchise, I really don't see the point. What do you need that you can't get from the already way ahead of its time season mode? Online leagues.eh, not really necessary, and would just jack up the price. Hell, Madden didn't even have that until a couple years ago.
I will give you the color editor though. I do wish they would have allowed us to correct the team uniforms.but who knows where the legal issues were drawn with this game. And as I said, adding a bunch of new features would turn off a lot of fans of the original game.which I believe is the target audience. But hey, we can agree to disagree. It wouldn't be the first time.
